The third DLI Challenge Window has officially opened

The Data for Local Impact Innovation Challenge (DLIIC) is happy to announce the opening of its third challenge window, which focuses on Youth Empowerment.

The third challenge window succeeds the two previous windows. The first window focused on improving health services, and the second on protecting adolescent girls and young women against HIV/AIDS. In announcing the challenge, the DLI Project Manager, Mr. Agapiti Manday, said that after addressing the areas of health and HIV/AIDS, now the focus is on economic empowerment with a special emphasis on youth employment and employability.

The DLI Innovation Challenge supports the Sustainable Development Goals and aims to contribute to progress in the areas of Health and Wellbeing (SDG3), Gender Equality (SDG 5) and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8). The third challenge window supports Sustainable Development Goal 8, which promotes sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

This new challenge aligns with the DLIIC’s mission to engage, support, and connect Tanzanian innovators, developers, and solution providers to bring difference in people’s lives through increased use of or access to data. The DLI Innovation Challenge team therefore encourages all Tanzanian innovators to bring your best ideas to the challenges facing Economic Empowerment, Youth Employment and Sustainable Development Goal 8.

Winners of the DLI Innovation Challenge receive grants that enable them to develop the proposed solution over a period of 3-6 months. DLIIC awards grants to individuals or teams in the range of USD 10,000-25,000 (about TSh25m-Tsh50m) along with grants to organizations in the range of USD 75,000-100,000 (about TSh150m-Tsh215m). Winners are also paired with a mentor, who will help them develop their innovative ideas into a final product. They also receive training and grant management support from the DLI Innovation Challenge Team.

DLIIC therefore opens the door to all Tanzanians who want to make a difference in their fellow Tanzanians’ lives through their creativity about how to use or combine data, including open data. Those interested are invited to apply online through the DLIIC website: www.dliinnovationchallenge.com/apply. However, DLIIC encourages all potential applicants to first read the Applicant Resource Book, which is also found in the website, before starting the application process. The Applicant Resource Book explains essential areas of the challenge including eligibility criteria, scoring criteria, and the challenge.
